People who have never used self-storage before can get worried they might be signing themselves up to a situation that will be hard to get out of. Let’s be honest, there are a LOT of companies out there who make it very easy to sign up to what they are selling, but very difficult to get out of it (almost impossibly small ‘small print’ with all sorts of reasons why you can’t stop paying X pounds a month… sounds familiar?!).
A versatile solution for your storage needs
Renting a self-storage room is an easy process. We strongly advise you to visit your chosen storage facility so you can check out the different storage room sizes. After all, you are the only person who really knows what you want to store. Therefore, you are the only person who can decide which storage room size will suit you.

Once you have chosen a storage room size you will need to fill in a storage agreement; provide proof of ID, pay for the storage and then you’re off! You’ll be provided with your access codes and you can start loading your things into the storage room.
Easily upgrade or downsize your self-storage room
One of the best things about self-storage is that it’s flexible and you, as a customer, are in control of how long you store for and what size storage room you use whilst you are storing. Most storage companies – Metro Storage included – will be more than happy to allow you to upgrade or downsize your storage room as long as they have storage rooms available in the size you want to move to obviously! Even if we don’t have the storage room size you are after right at that moment, we will happily put you on a waiting list so that when one does become available we will get in touch and let you know it is now possible to move into the new storage room you’re after.
If there is availability it will often be possible to move on the same day you make the request. If you upgrade your storage room size there will be an increase in the cost per period (e.g. per 4 weeks) that you are invoiced for. That’s because you are taking up more space. If you are downsizing there will be a credit put on your account – as you are taking less space the charge will also be less.
How quickly can I vacate a storage room?
The time will come when you no longer need the storage you have been using. Be aware – there will virtually always be a small notice period that you will need to give to vacate the storage unit – but don’t worry – it’s not a biggie! Most stores just require a minimum of 14 days written notice and email is the preferred way of doing this. This is so there’s an audit trail so everything is nice and clear for everyone.
Once you have fully vacated the storage room – being careful to take all your things with you and ensuring you don’t leave any rubbish anywhere on-site – you will receive a refund of any unused storage fees along with any security deposit that is taken when you start to store. This means you only pay for the days you actually use, even if the storage company asks you to pay upfront for a period of time like 4 weeks.

- It’s possible to change your unit by either upgrading or downsizing at any time during your time storing (as long as there is availability of course!)
